Timo Werner to Liverpool Possible According to “Multiple Sources”

Pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft says he’s hearing Liverpool are the likeliest destination for Werner.
Liverpool like good players. Liverpool like undervalued players. Today, there are few better players and also few more undervalued players than Red Bull Leipzig’s Timo Werner, the 23-year-old superstar of a striker with a £50M release clause.
Werner is putting up scintillating numbers this season, a continuation of his progression over the years in the Bundesliga, and statistically is already world class. He’s got technique, pace, and workreate. He seems a perfect fit for Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
And he’s been linked this week to Liverpool. Again. This time by Germany’s Sport Bild, though this latest round of Werner to Liverpool chatter began a few weeks ago when Jan Aage Fjortoft claimed Werner is Liverpool’s top attacking target.
“Multiple sources in Germany have told me for months now that Klopp wants to bring Werner to Liverpool,” Fjortoft told Empire of the Kop. “SportBild confirming my reports today on their front page. They have good record on these kind of stories.”
Fjortoft further notes while Liverpool don’t have a clear run at Werner—that release clause means every big club in Europe just about will be after him—Bayern not in the market due to not wanting to unsettle Robert Lewandowski makes the Reds favourites.
As to where Werner might fit at Liverpool, while it’s possible the club would look to begin to rebuild the squad this summer, that Werner could play across the front three or as a more traditional nine with Roberto Firmino dropped into the ten means options.
There’s also the looming threat of the Africa Cup of Nations in January of 2021, when the Reds will lose both Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah from their attack. Whether or not it’s Werner, another attacking player will clearly be needed.
