Man Utd, Liverpool monitoring Arsenal starlet amid contract doubts
Arsenal are looking to tie down Bukayo Saka to a new contract amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, a report claims.
Saka has begun to flourish in the Arsenal first team this season, making 10 starts in the Premier League and a further six in cup competitions – contributing three goals and five assists in total.
The teenager was singled out for special praise by Freddie Ljungberg in December when the former Arsenal hero was serving as interim manager, and he has continued to be given chances by current boss Mikel Arteta.
However, only 18 months remain on Saka’s contract at the Emirates Stadium, meaning they will have to negotiate a new deal for him fairly soon or risk seeing him snapped up by one of their rivals.
According to the Daily Mail, both Liverpool and Manchester United are keen on Saka, who prefers to play as a left winger but has slotted in at left-back when needed this season.
It is believed Saka currently earns £3,000-per-week as part of his contract, but Arsenal want to extend his stay with them further.
Bayern Munich are also believed to be keeping an eye on the latest developments in Saka’s contract talks, with several English youngsters having headed to Germany to continue their development in recent years – not least Jadon Sancho, who is now keen on a Premier League return after leaving Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
Meanwhile, it is claimed that Arsenal are preparing to offload as many as six players in an effort to raise £150m in transfer funds for Arteta ahead of his first summer as Gunners boss.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the biggest name on the list, with the striker openly admired by Barcelona, while players such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sead Kolasinac are also set to be for sale.
