Results from New Hampshire are in and Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) appears to have come out on top in the first-in-the-nation primary. Sanders narrowly defeated former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg in Tuesday’s race. With his place as a front-runner in the contest solidified, Sanders claimed victory and used the opportunity to take a swipe at President Trump.
“With victories behind us, popular vote in Iowa and the victory here tonight, we are going to Nevada, we’re groping to South Carolina, we’re going to win those states as well,” claimed the Democrat presidential contender. “…no matter who wins, and we certainly hope it is going to be us, we are going to unite together, we are going to unite together and defeat the most dangerous President in the modern history of this country.”

In response to the tight race, Buttigieg congratulated his Democrat rivals for their performance in the state and acknowledged how far his campaign has come.
“I want to congratulate my competitors and their supporters on their campaigns here in New Hampshire,” he stated. “I admired Sen. Sanders when I was a high school student, I respect him greatly to this day, and I congratulate him on his strong showing tonight.”
Sanders and Buttigieg will each receive nine delegates to the Democrat National Convention as the state awards them proportionally.
Meanwhile, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) secured her spot in third place for a total of six delegates. This came after she effectively used the momentum from a strong debate on Friday to help her surge in the polls.
“I can not wait to win the nomination, I cannot wait to build a movement and win with a movement of fired up Democrats, independents and moderate Republicans that see this election as we do,” she stated. “With all of this great New Hampshire good will, the best is yet to come.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren trailed in fourth place, followed by former Vice President Joe Biden in fifth. Their performance will not award them any delegates from the state.
Biden’s poor finish comes after he placed fourth in Iowa last week and will most will likely prompt further questions about his overall electability. However, he reassured his supporters that despite the results — “it’s not over yet.”
“So when you hear all these pundits and experts and cable TV talkers talking about the race, tell them ‘it ain’t over, man,’ we’re just getting started,” said Biden.
Meanwhile, businessman Andrew Yang and Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) announced they would be suspending their campaigns, following Tuesday’s results.

The remaining presidential candidates will now prepare for the Nevada caucus, which is set to take place Saturday, February 22.
