Horrifying moment schoolchildren hurled to roof of bus as it flips over
This is the terrifying moment schoolchildren were hurled to the roof of a bus as it violently overturned following a crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol released the footage Monday which shows the bus flipping over, pinning the students inside
According to police, the crash happened in Perry County in December after a driver in a 1996 Ford Mustang sped through a red light and hit the bus.
The students can be heard frantically screaming for help as they try to free themselves from their seats inside the bus that was overturned on its door.
However, the bus driver, 74-year-old Danny Hupp, managed to stay calm throughout the ordeal and can be heard telling the students to get out through the windows or security exit, which they are all eventually able to do.
Eight students and Hupp were taken to the Licking Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said 25 students were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Footage shows the severe damage caused by the crash, which caved-in the bus roof and knocked debris loose.
Rory Stewart wants to spend the night at your placeThe driver who was in the Mustang, identified as 42-year-old Joseph Thornton, was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital. His condition is unclear.
Police said Thornton was driving with a suspended license at the time of the crash, although they did not say whether he has been charged.
