Punchestown tips: Racecard, analysis and preview for the feature Grand National Trial on Tuesday

THE racing is average at best in Britain on Tuesday and by far and away the best action comes from Ireland.

Punchestown have rearranged their Sunday card and the Grand National trial (4.00) is a good betting heat.

A field of 20 are set to go to post and as you’d expect it is wide open. But 28lbs separate the top and bottom weights and it’s a puzzle that takes some solving.

Minella Til Dawn was a ready winner last time at Cork and despite a big hike in the weights is ready to contest this sort of heat.

But he still has stamina to prove and his jumping isn’t always the smartest. He’d be passed over at short odds in a race as competitive as this.

Rocky’s Silver looks more of a threat at the top of the betting and goes well here, but losing Derek O’Connor from the saddle is a big blow.

Therefore the each-way bullet to be fired is Gordon Elliott’s CHEB DE KERVINIOU who comes here off a lightweight and with Rachael Blackmore booked to ride.

He went well for much of the way in a good race last time out, but lacked a gear change when push comes to shove and this marathon will suit better.

Testing conditions are not an issue and a mark of 124 looks generous enough after his first couple of spins since moving from France.

He’s shaped well both outings and looked in need of a run on stable debut. This could be spot on for him.

Pleasant Company faces a near impossible task off top weight in this. He’s shown very little of late and needs to find some form desperately.

Roaring Bull is a big threat with 5lbs claimer Sean O’Keeffe booked. His run last time was better than it looked on paper and he remains in top form.

At bigger odds Tony Martin’s Cle En Main can be given a sniff. He was backed into favouritism last time and a bad jump cost him when push came to shove. His mark doesn’t look overly harsh as yet.
