CHRIS Evans wheeled in the big guns to judge Virgin Radio’s ‘fake laughing’ competition – getting A-lister Tom Hanks to give his verdict.
The competition, which saw contestants do their best ten-second laugh, came to a close today as Hollywood star Tom Hanks decided who would win a trip to New York.
The competition, run by Sky, had been judged by Chris and other members of his team in the last few days to whittle the contestants down to four.
Tom called into the show from Australia to talk about his new film A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood and wasn’t told he was going to be judging the final of the competition.
He joked about the magnitude of the pressure saying: “I’m going to get slammed on Twitter for whoever I pick.”
However, he did make a decision, sending one lucky listener off to the US.
Tom’s film Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood is being released today in the UK and follows the life of Fred Rogers, a popular children’s TV star in America.
The 63-year-old actor said: “Fred Rogers was a very, very benevolent man in the hearts and minds and the attention spans of little kids who did not yet know how the world works, who were confused by light switches and the moods of grown-ups and how musical instruments actually operated.
“To say he was beloved in the United States is actually selling him a little bit short.
“I think he was actually very important in the lives of an awful lot of very, very young people.”

His show, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, never aired in the UK but Chris described its host as “somewhere between Sesame Street and George Bailey from It’s A Wonderful Life.
