Jacob Evans III is headed to Santa Cruz

Golden State Warriors second-year wing Jacob Evans is headed down the highway to spend some time with the G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors. The team announced on Thursday that Evans will have a short G League stint, designed to get him some more playing time.

Evans returned to the lineup on Wednesday night after missing three games due to a broken nose and a concussion. He logged nearly 19 minutes of action against the Utah Jazz, scoring 4 points on 2-5 shooting, while also logging 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block.
Injuries have been the story of Evans’ season, and he’s already missed 24 games following a promising preseason and season opener. With Glenn Robinson III and Alec Burks both healthy, and likely being showcased on the trade market - not to mention Damion Lee now being on a guaranteed roster spot - there aren’t a lot of minutes for Evans. So it makes sense for him to try and get into a rhythm with Santa Cruz.
Evans will get to play two games for Santa Cruz, where he suited up 21 times last year. Santa Cruz hosts the Wisconsin Herd on Friday, and the South Bay Lakers on Sunday. As a result, Evans will miss Friday’s game between Golden State and the Indiana Pacers. But he’ll return to the team on Tuesday, as they embark on a five-game road trip that begins with the Philadelphia 76ers, and ends on February 5 against Kevin Durant’s Brooklyn Nets.
