Jose Mourinho provides update on Harry Winks’ ankle injury

Jose Mourinho remained confident that Harry Winks will be out for “weeks” rather than “months” after the Tottenham midfielder limped out of their victory over Norwich City on Wednesday with an ankle problem.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury during the 56th minute of the win against the Canaries after a challenge with Todd Cantwell. Winks looked visibly distressed and was unable leave the pitch without help from the Spurs medical staff.

Mourinho was unable to confirm the extent of the injury nor the timescale, but Winks will almost certainly miss Tottenham’s FA Cup 4th Round trip to Southampton on Saturday and then the Premier League visit of Manchester City the following Sunday.

The Portuguese was asked the latest on Winks’ injury during his post-match press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the game.

“I prefer not to know before I come in here so I come with a normal face,” Mourinho told Football.London. “I don’t want to come in here with a very upset face, so I’m even afraid to ask, but when I leave here I have to ask.”

However, Mourinho would go on to provide some better news, admitting that he hopes it will be weeks and not months. Reliable Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold also tweeted out that Winks left the stadium with no protective boot on his foot.
