Reign FC acquire midfielder Dani Weatherholt, drop three from roster
A second-round draft pick goes to Orlando in exchange.
Reign FC made a trade today with the Orlando Pride to acquire midfielder Dani Weatherholt in exchange for a 2021 2nd round draft pick. Weatherholt, who played the last four seasons for the Pride, has also spent time in Australia with Melbourne Victory, where she helped the team to the top of the W-League table.

I can’t wait to get into preseason and pour everything that I have into this club.”
Weatherholt was selected by Orlando with the first pick of the fourth round (31st overall) in the 2016 NWSL College Draft, out of Santa Clara University. While with the Broncos she was received First Team All-WCC honors and Third Team All-West Region honors in her senior year.
She made 12 appearances in her rookie season in Orlando and took on a much bigger role in her second year, making 20 appearances and scoring one goal. Her best year to date came in 2018, where she appeared in all but one match and scored two goals.
In other roster news, the team announced that midfielder Morgan Proffitt is retiring, defender Schuyler DeBree is taking Player Elected Leave, and forward Addie Steiner has been waived. Proffitt was acquired in 2019 from Czech club SK Slavia Praha and made six appearances for the club. DeBree was acquired from Czech side AC Sparta Praha and did not appear for the Reign. Steiner initially joined the club as a National Team Replacement Player before signing a full contract for the remainder of the 2019 season. She made five substitute appearances.
With these changes, Reign FC now has 21 players under contract for 2020, the rights to Julia Ashley, five players who are out-of-contract but have been tendered new offers, and three players selected in the college draft.
