Supposed Number Of Turkish-Backed Syrian Militants In Libya Revealed
Meet the former US-supported FSA, now Turkish-backed FSA, who are committing the same war crimes in Syria they’ve been for years.
Turkey has sent more than 1,250 Syrian militants to Libya to defend the Government of National Accord (GNA) so far, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed in a report on January 8.
The London-based monitoring group said that the most recent batch sent to Libya from Turkey consisted of more than 260 militants.
“All militants are from the al-Sham Legion, most of them were displaced from Homs city, perpetrations to send 300 other militants of the al-Sham Legion to Libya in the upcoming few days are ongoing,” the SOHR’s report reads.
According to the SOHR, 1,700 other Syrian militants, who are now receiving military training in Turkey, will be deployed in Libya soon. The monitoring group said that Ankara has intensified its recruitment efforts in northern Syria.
The first batch of Syrian militants arrived in Libya last December. Turkey’s proxies sustained their first casualty earlier this month, when a fighter of the Turkish-backed Sultan Murad Division was killed near the Libyan capital, Tripoli, by the Libyan National Army (LNA).
Turkey likely hopes that its Syrian proxies will help the GNA to repel the LNA’s ongoing attack on Tripoli. However, the situation on the ground appears to be getting worse for pro-GNA forces.
