Nick Bochette named new head coach of Temple women’s soccer

Bochette twice led the University of Albany to the NCAA Tournament in four seasons as head coach

After guiding the University of Albany to two NCAA Tournament bids as head coach, Nick Bochette has taken over a Temple women’s soccer program that hasn’t had a winning season since 2015 and has never made the Big Dance.

The Schaghticoke, New York native, who played professionally in USL with the Wilmington Hammerheads, was named the sixth head coach of the program earlier this week.

“Nick brings with him not only a track record for success, having guided Albany to its best season ever, but also an abundance and energy and passion that should energize our program,” Athletic Director Dr. Patrick Kraft said in a news release. “He also has demonstrated a commitment to his student-athletes, not only on the field, but in the classroom and beyond. The search committee was very impressed with his short and long-term plans for the program, and I believe he is the perfect person to take Temple women’s soccer to the next level.”

Bochette’s appointment comes two years after Brian Rowland was hired to take over the men’s soccer program. Bochette replaces Seamus O’Connor, who resigned in November after the team posted a fourth straight losing season.

“I’m humbled and honored to assume this role; and want to thank Pat Kraft, Jessica Reo (Executive Associate AD), and Larry Dougherty (Senior Associate AD) for trusting in my vision to bring the Women’s Soccer program into the new decade,” Bochette said in the news release. “The culture of the entire athletic department aligns perfectly with the values and priorities I have always believed in, and I was thoroughly impressed with everyone I had the privilege of meeting through the interview process.”

O’Connor was the head coach for seven seasons and guided the Owls to the American Athletic Conference Tournament in all but three seasons and posted back-to-back seasons of 11 and 12 wins, which tied and broke program records. He posted an overall record of 50-73-11 during his tenure.
