The Premier League club chasing ex-Spurs and Arsenal striker Adebayor – report
Aston Villa have been offered the chance to sign former Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, according to the Sun.
Adebayor scored 42 goals in 113 appearances for Spurs, also playing for Arsenal and Manchester City in England before moving to Turkey. He left Super Lig club Kayserispor last month and is thus available on a free transfer.
The Sun claims Adebayor has emerged as a target for Villa, who are desperately seeking a striker after Wesley was ruled out until the end of the season through injury. At 36, Adebayor would provide Dean Smith with an experienced frontman.
That said, the veteran goalscorer is not the lethal goalscorer he once was. His last spell in the Premier League saw him find the net just once in 15 appearances for Crystal Palace.
Indeed, the move would certainly be a risk for Villa. Despite there being no transfer fee involved, Adebayor would likely demand large wages – and his form could end up being the deciding factor in Villa’s top-flight survival.
If a deal does happen, it will be interesting to see how the former Togo international gets on against Tottenham when Jose Mourinho’s men travel to Villa Park next month.
