USING a sun visor to block out glare can often obscure your field of vision when driving.
But a new innovative see-through screen could make it easier to keep your eyes on the road.
Auto supplier Bosch has revealed a transparent LCD visor that shades your eyes without blocking your field of vision.
Dubbed the Virtual Visor, the system uses a camera to track the motorist’s vision and detect what is happening on the road.
A portion of the panel is then blocked out to stop the sun shining in the driver’s eyes, while the rest of the visor remains transparent.
According to Bosch, the use of crystal technology to block a specific light source decreases dangerous sun glare, driver discomfort and chances of having an accident.
Figures obtained by the company reveal thousands of sun glare-related car accidents happen each year, while another study found the risk of having a crash is 16 per cent higher during bright sunlight.
The system will debut at CES 2020 in Las Vegas this week alongside a range of emerging technology.
Dr Steffen Berns, president of Bosch Car Multimedia, said: “For most drivers around the world, the visor component as we know it is not enough to avoid hazardous sun glare – especially at dawn and dusk when the sun can greatly decrease drivers’ vision.
“Some of the simplest innovations make the greatest impact, and Virtual Visor changes the way drivers see the road.”
Jason Zink, technical expert for Bosch, said: “We discovered early in the development that users adjust their traditional sun visors to always cast a shadow on their own eyes.
“This realisation was profound in helping simplify the product concept and fuel the design of the technology.”
Aston Martin is set to unveil a rear-view mirror that allows drivers to check their blind spot at CES.
