Samsung trots out massive 292-inch TV called ‘The Wall’ at international gadget show

You might be feel pretty chuffed with your 50-inch or 55-inch TV sitting pride of place in the living room.

But that’s nothing. South Korean tech powerhouse Samsung has celebrated the start of the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show by rocking up with a massive 292-inch telly that it just calls ‘The Wall’.

To translate: that’s 24 feet or 7.4 meters of nothing but screen.

Imagine the games of FIFA or watching anything by Christopher Nolan on this monster.

We’ve actually seen this before – back in the summer – but the company is trotting it out again to remind us of the technology involved.

Samsung made it using ‘MicroLED’ technology which basically means it’s got millions of tiny LEDs that work together to create the image. Samsung reckons this tech has potentially better picture quality than OLED and doesn’t have the drawback of ‘burn-in’ or ghost images occurring.

The company also showed off a more modest 150-inch version that manages an 8K resolution as well as a few other screen sizes for those with only moderate-sized mansions.

‘New advancements for 2020 have allowed for larger-scale production of fixed screen sizes,’ Samsung said, ‘Including new 88-, 93-, 110- and 150-inch sizes.’

The Wall is just 30mm deep with a screen that uses LEDs with a 100,000-hour lifetime, meaning you’ll never have to switch it off unless you’re poor enough to worry about electricity bills.

Seog-gi Kim, executive vice president of visual display business at Samsung Electronics, said: ‘We set out to create a product unlike anything else – matching the lifestyle and taste of those looking for the most exclusive and premium visual experiences in their homes.’

The official price hasn’t been announced yet but here’s a little spoiler: you can’t afford it.

Samsung’s mammoth flagship 98-inch Q950R 8K QLED is officially priced at £99,999, meaning the The Wall is likely to cost well into three figures. Best start saving.
