A STRIP club customer allegedly lost £50,000 in one night — and police and trading standards want the venue closed.
The man says he did not even remember visiting SophistiCats, in Euston, North London.
His last memory was being at its sister venue in Soho before he was driven to the second club where he was allegedly charged £28,000 “in the last few minutes”. Police are investigating.
A police officer who reviewed CCTV footage from inside the Camden club’s VIP area on the night said it was “clear” the man was not fully aware of what was going on around him.
A card machine was taken into the VIP area, while a waitress “on more than one occasion” indicated for performers to start dancing, which appeared to distract the man as he entered his card details, the officer said in the report.
SophistiCats bills itself as the capital’s “premier” lap dancing club.
Another visitor to the lap dancing club alleged £8,000 was taken from his account “without his consent”.
The Metropolitan Police and Camden trading standards have both recommended the club’s Sexual Entertainment Venues licence is not renewed by Camden Council on Thursday.
A visit by a licensing enforcement officer on November 14 found the premises was “compliant” with all regulations at the time.
SophistiCats said: “These are allegations, not incidents, and the club will supply, at the hearing, a full rebuttal to all accusations.”
