Prince George & Princess Charlotte Join the Royal Family on Annual Christmas Walk for the First Time
Mark off another milestone for the Cambridge family! On Wednesday, Prince George and Princess Charlotte took their first-ever Christmas walk — the royal family’s annual tradition of walking together for holiday church services. And it should come as no surprise that George, 6, and Charlotte, 4, pretty much stole the show as they made the trek to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene on the Queen’s Sandringham estate.
George and Charlotte naturally made their Christmas Day debut in style. In an emerald green coat by Amaia, Charlotte coordinated with mom Kate Middleton, who wore a green hat and green suede pumps. George matched dad Prince William in a navy blazer and collared shirt. Missing from the family outing was Prince Louis, 19 months, who isn’t yet old enough for the tradition. Per People, Kate and William left him in the trusted care of their nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, at the family’s nearby Anmer Hall home.
Charlotte and George’s Christmas walk debut is right in line with precedent set by the royal family in the past — William and Prince Harry were both five when they took their inaugural holiday strolls. Although George is slightly older and Charlotte slightly younger than that benchmark, it’s nice that the Cambridges split the difference so the siblings could make their debut together.
Prince Louis was present for another holiday highlight the Cambridges shared with the world. Ahead of Wednesday’s annual walk, the official Kensington Palace social media account shared a super-sweet and refreshingly candid black-and-white photo taken by Kate. In it, William plants a kiss on his youngest son’s cheek while Charlotte and George ham for the camera. George appears to be wearing shorts with a playful dinosaur print.
This is the second black-and-white family snapshot casually dropped by the royal family this week. Yesterday, Harry and Meghan Markle shared this year’s Christmas card featuring a photo in which baby Archie is crawling right toward the camera.
And although the Sussexes weren’t there to share in George and Charlotte’s first Christmas walk (they’re currently on vacation in Canada), there doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings — Will and Kate “liked” Harry and Meghan’s cute holiday photo.
