How the Queen will start Boxing Day with the same Indian dish for breakfast every year
THE royal family have a number of festive traditions over the Christmas period.
And one of the Queen’s Boxing Day traditions includes a hearty breakfast to begin a leisurely day.
According to HELLO! on Boxing Day, the royals enjoy a buffet breakfast of kedgeree, bacon and eggs.
Kedgeree consists of flaked fish (often haddock), boiled rice, boiled eggs, curry powder, butter or cream.
It’s just one of the family’s festive traditions on Boxing Day, following a busy Christmas Day at Sandringham in Norfolk.
The royals spend much of the day enjoying outdoor activities, including walking, horse riding and of course – the annual Boxing Day pheasant shoot.
It’s not the only tradition the royals have over Christmas, with the family also opening presents on Christmas Eve as opposed to the big day itself.
The royals are known for their “joke” presents and previous years have reportedly seen Princess Anne giving her brother Charles a leather toilet seat, Kate buying Harry a grow-your-own girlfriend kit and the Queen receiving a shower cap with “Ain’t Life a Bitch!” written on it from Harry in 2013.
The family also attend a church service at St Mary Magdalene on Christmas morning.
This year, Princess Charlotte and Prince George joined the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for the first time.
Little Charlotte, four, was even spotted curtsying to the Queen this morning.
After the service, Princess Charlotte and Prince George were spotted mingling with members of the public, with the princess even clutching an inflatable pink flamingo.
Meanwhile, Princess Beatrice also attended the service, walking alongside fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
In attending, the couple are thought to be breaking from tradition as Sandringham celebrations are a privilege usually reserved for members of the royal family.
