‘Turner and Hooch’ TV Series in the Works at Disney+
A TV adaptation of “Turner and Hooch,” the 1980s-era buddy cop movie is in development at Disney+, an individual familiar with the project tells TheWrap.
The series is from “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix, who most recently shepherded Fox’s X-Men drama, “The Gifted.” It comes from Disney-owned 20th Century Fox TV, where Nix has an overall deal. The series would keep the same premise of the film, which starred Tom Hanks and revolved around a police detective, Scott Turner, and his French mastiff pooch, Hooch.
The film, which co-starred Mare Winningham and Craig T. Nelson, was a success at the box office, grossing $71 million.

This will be the second attempt at a “Turner and Hooch” TV series. In the 1990s, a pilot starring Thomas F. Wilson in the Hanks role was filmed and aired as part of ABC’s “The Magical World of Disney,” but it never went to series.
Nix’s most recent series, “The Gifted” ran for two seasons on Fox. “Burn Notice” aired for seven seasons on USA.
Disney+ is a month into its existence, having launched on Nov. 12. The streaming service announced Monday that the Gina Rodriguez-produced “Diary of a Future President” would be its next original to premiere on Jan. 17.
