Unsettled Tottenham star says he has never spoken with Mourinho
Tottenham defender Danny Rose has revealed that he has never spoken to Jose Mourinho about his future.
Rose came close to leaving Spurs in the summer, with a move to Watford eventually falling through.
Since missing out on the move away, Rose has pledged to see out the final 18 months of his contract – a stance he has reiterated despite the recent change in the managerial hotseat.
Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November, and has had a fairly positive start, leading them back into the top half of the Premier League.
Rose says the appointment of Mourinho shows how far the club have come, but admits nothing changes about his own future.
“I’ve never had a conversation with him and I don’t see why I need to,” said Rose. “As I said before, I’m here for the next 18 months, so I don’t see why I need to have a conversation with the manager.
“I want to do as well as I possibly can, work as hard as I can to achieve what looked impossible a few weeks ago, and that is finishing in the top four.”
The England international says that despite playing for Pochettino being a “privilege”, the arrival of Mourinho has allowed the squad to reset.
“We’re all starting from the same starting point or, at least, I hope we are,” he added.
“It’s very good [under Mourinho]. I had the privilege of working under Mauricio for five and a half years and now, I have to be honest, I never thought I would be managed by Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.
“That’s credit to the club, how well they’ve progressed, and to get someone like José has been brilliant. He’s one of the most decorated managers of my lifetime, so it’s been a good start for the team and I’ve enjoyed it so far.
“He is a serial winner, so I imagine we will be looking to win the FA Cup and finish in the top four of the league.”
As for Mourinho’s predecessor, Pochettino is said to be on Manchester City’s radar if Pep Guardiola activates an exit clause in his contract at the end of the season. Read the full story here.
