Joshua says he took time to reflect after his loss to Ruiz, which has benefited him.
As Anthony Joshua puts the finishing touches on his training camp before he faces Andy Ruiz Jr. again this Saturday, the former heavyweight titleholder takes confidence in knowing that he took the time to rebuild after his loss, while Ruiz was busy celebrating.
“It’s about who uses their time more wisely,” Joshua told Sky Sports. “Away from the bright lights of the media after I took my loss, it was a time to reflect and that’s what I did.
“The changes I’ve made will make it very difficult for Ruiz Jr in the rematch.”
Joshua then may have slipped in a hint about his game plan for this fight, saying that it’s a marathon and not a race, which would seem to coincide with his trimmer physique that many people have noticed leading into this fight.
Early indicators are that Joshua will attempt to play more of a boxer than a slugger for this rematch — which is exactly what Ruiz is expecting — and if he really can’t cope with Ruiz’s hand speed and combination punching on the inside, then that’s probably a good idea.
