Crunchyroll adds ‘Last Cloudia’ to stable of games

Crunchyroll is no stranger to Japanese culture. The streaming service built a business off of an enormous library of anime after all.

As the company matures, it’s expanding to other areas and that includes video games. Over past few years, Crunchyroll has been adding anime-based mobile games to its portfolio, but for the first time, the publisher is bringing in an original Japanese role-playing game. Titled “Last Cloudia,” the game is reminiscent of 16-bit classics. Players build a party of three heroes and a supporter and they’ll run around a stage battling enemies using attacks at hand and clear quests along the way.

The game has autoplay for characters that players aren’t controlling. It also has the option to be more turn-based instead of action-oriented. When it comes to the nitty-gritty, “Last Cloudia” has a progression system based on Arks, which are sort of like a class and gear system combined. They determine stats and let players learn moves that characters can master. They are arguably more important than characters.

To mark this occasion, the developer, AIDIS, is collaborating with Square Enix to bring elements from the upcoming “Collection of Mana” game into “Last Cloudia.” For a limited time, gamers will have a chance to bring in Randi, Popoi and Primm as playable characters in “Last Cloudia.” Each of these heroes will have a corresponding ark and weapon as well. In addition, AIDIS will bring in enemies from the games in the “Collection of Mana.” The event will run from Nov. 26 to Dec. 13.
