Woman transforms her bland grey kitchen for £156 with spotty stick-on vinyl and a lick of paint
A WOMAN has revealed how she spruced up her grey “prison-style” kitchen into a swanky polka dot paradise using dalmatian print sticky back vinyl which costs just £22 a roll.
Jessica Toole, 27, from Manchester, wanted to transform the bland kitchen of her rented flat without having to break the bank to rip it all out.
The super saver decided to opt for a pocket-friendly alternative, using sticky back vinyl and a quick lick of paint on cupboard handles.
Jessica forked out just £156 in total to add a bit of pizzazz to the room, and the entire process took just four hours to complete.
Firstly the DIY-lover measured out the vinyl against the cupboards and freezer in her kitchen and cut out the trickier bits with a Stanley knife.
Self-employed Jessica said: “When I moved into the apartment, I didn’t have a lot of money and had to budget, so ripping the whole kitchen out wasn’t feasible.
“Compared to the rest of the house, I felt the kitchen had prison vibes – it was so dull and boring and didn’t represent my personality at all.
“The rest of my house is quite ‘out-there’ and so I decided to use green and dalmatian print vinyl as a solution that was a bit different and didn’t break the bank.
“I also painted the cupboard handles to tie in with the vinyl prints, and I’m very happy with the result.”
Jessica spent £6 on the pot of paint for the cupboard handles, and used seven metres of forest green vinyl at £12 per metre and four metres of dalmatian print at £22 per metre.
A rug from another part of the house finished the look and all together the quick fix transformation cost just £156.
Jessica is now a huge vinyl advocate, and has even launched her own brand of the decor, which she designs herself to give walls and furniture a new lease of life.
The vinyl queen added: “I used to find furniture on Facebook marketplace and I needed a way of making it my own.
“I then came across vinyl, but the designs I was initially using were boring and bad quality.
“Even so, my Instagram blew up because people loved the transformations I created with it.
“So I launched my own vinyl company on September 1 and it’s been doing really well so far.
“I would love to cover my whole house in vinyl if I could!”
Jessica plans to continue transforming her house with her own quirky vinyl prints, and hopes to use a geometric print in her bathroom next.
