ITV now warn guests on its shows they risk abuse, in rules prompted by The Jeremy Kyle Show suicide.
This Morning and Good Morning Britain participants must acknowledge the threat of being trolled by viewers.
They are also advised on weathering a social media storm. A source said: “It’s been referred to as ‘vulnerability awareness’.
“The aim is to make sure guests know exactly what they’re in for.
“ITV know contentious topics and fiery exchanges make for good ratings, but can stir up anger among viewers.”
The policy is believed to have come in when ITV published a Duty of Care charter in June.
The month before, Steve Dymond, 63, took his own life after failing a lie detector test for Kyle, whose show has since been axed.
It was criticised for a lack of aftercare.
ITV said: “The physical and mental health of everyone we work with is our highest priority. We introduced this in line with ITV’s guidelines earlier this year.”
