Donald Trump says dictators are welcome to visit the United States
President Donald Trump said he has no problem meeting with dictators as long as it’s ‘good for the United States.’
‘When I meet with the leaders of countries as they come in – kings and queens and prime ministers and presidents and dictators – I meet ’em all,’ Trump said at during a speech at the Economic Club of New York on Tuesday.
‘Anybody wants to come in. Dictators? It’s OK. Come on in. Whatever’s good for the United States. We want to help our people,’ he continued.
Trump ended the statement on brand with a bit of self congratulations, saying: ‘But the first thing they say to me, almost always: “Congratulations on your economy.”‘
Throughout Trump’s lengthy speech, he continued to boast about the economic accomplishments of his administration, including deregulation, strong financial markets, and low unemployment rates – which have been dropping steadily since late 2009.

The president’s comment regarding dictators comes one day before he is set to meat with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has been heavily criticized for stifling liberal democracy in Turkey.
Erdoğan has come under fire most notably for launching an offensive in northern Syria last month, but he is not the only dictator Trump has welcomed with open arms.

‘He likes me, I like him. We get along. He wrote me two of the most beautiful letters. When I showed one of the letters – just one – to (Japanese) Prime Minister Abe, he said, “This is actually a groundbreaking letter,” Trump said at a UN General Assembly a month later.
The president has also been criticized for accepting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s denials about killing Washington Post journalist Jamal Kashoggi.
Last week, Trump even said he may accept an invitation by Vladamir Putin to attend a Russian military parade in May, but said that the upcoming 2020 campaign season may prohibit him from visiting Russia.
