Christmas drinkers warned as footage shows revellers’ drunken mishaps at stations
WITH Christmas fast approaching, Network Rail have urged passengers to take care on station platforms after having a few drinks over the festive period.
They have released a video titled ‘Next Day Regrets’ showing a number of boozy Christmas passengers tumbling onto rail tracks, collapsing at the bottom of escalators and even falling underneath a moving train.
In one clip, a passenger sprints along next to a moving train before slipping underneath it.
In another, a drunken reveller launches a kick into mid-air before falling off the platform and onto the tracks.
Meanwhile one female passenger is seen staggering backwards across the tracks before tripping over.
A Network Rail spokesman said: “It’s nearly the festive season, which means Christmas parties and a sharp increase in alcohol-related incidents around the railway.
“This year, in partnership with British Transport Police, we’re encouraging people to think about unsafe behaviour after a few drinks. It could lead to more than the usual drunken regrets.”

Advice being given to potentially-intoxicated passengers includes standing back from the platform edge, holding onto the handrail on stairs and escalators, walking (not running) and staying off the railway tracks.
Pointing out that 21 people have died in alcohol-related incidents on station platforms in the last decade, BTP said it wanted to highlight how the railway and alcohol can be a dangerous mix.
