Dad from hell, 18, ‘beat baby daughter to death while tot’s mum popped out to the shops’
AN evil teenage dad battered his baby daughter while the tot’s mum had nipped out to the shops.
Jayden Straight, who was 17 at the time of the murder, battered his eight-month-old daughter Raija so badly she was left with serious internal injuries, including multiple skull fractures, broken ribs, a ruptured spleen and massive retinal haemorrhaging.
Straight’s partner Ri Bambino had popped out to the shops in July 2018 and left Straight to look after their child.
She returned to find her baby horrifically injured and Straight having gone on the run from his home in Des Moines, Iowa.
He handed himself in to cops the following day but failed to provide them with an explanation for the wounds inflicted on his daughter.
Raija died from her injuries on July 14, 2018.
A doctor who treated the baby in hospital before she died said the injuries were “from a deliberate assault and could not be explained as unintentional or accidental.”
Straight pleaded guilty for his role in the death of his daughter.
Straight was initially handed a 50-year jail sentence on Friday, according to the Des Moines Register, but was handed a further five decade-long sentences for three counts of willful injury and two counts of child endangerment resulting in serious injury.

As the six sentences will run consecutively Straight will not be released from prison before 2119.
Raija’s great-grandmother Robin Head said: “When I saw this child’s face and what she has brought to me for the last eight months of her life.
“I can’t never explain that feeling of holding her, laughing with her, touching her, walking with her, crawling with her.”
