William Wintersole, a prolific TV actor who is perhaps best known for playing attorney Mitchell Sherman on “The Young and the Restless” for 25 years, has died. He was 88.
“Early Tuesday morning my father Bill Wintersole passed,” his daughter Tiffany Harmon posted on Facebook. “My bond with him was strong. His heart pure. He spoke to me with his facial expressions, as his gift was communication with ANYBODY..ANYWHERE..ANYTIME. A Legend. An entertainer and my beautiful daddy. #collectiveconsciousness as he rises above to protect me and those many fans who loved him.”
Wintersole, who was last on “Y&R” in 2011, was born July 30, 1931 in Portsmouth, Ohio. He died on Nov. 5 at 1:11 a.m., his daughter wrote.

Sherman was the lawyer for Jeanne Cooper’s Katherine Chancellor Murphy.
See Wintersole’s acting resume at IMDb. His first listed credit dates back to 1964’s “The Outer Limits,” a TV series on which Wintersole played Prof. Andrew Whitsett. That means Wintersole’s acting career spanned six decades.
Additionally, Wintersole was the director of 10 radio stations on the Korean Armed Forces Network where he entertained the troops by playing jazz over the air and played requests from family members of the service members when he served in the army 1954-56.
Harmon told TheWrap she is planning a memorial for her father that is tentatively set for mid-December. Wintersole is survived by his life partner of 40 years, Marlene Silverstein, daughters Tiffany Harmon of Santa Cruz, California, Kathryn Ramsey of Ohio, as well as his granddaughters, Jill, Kristy and Amy and great-granddaughter Abigail.
