The supermarkets selling low noise fireworks amid pet safety concerns

Christmas is almost here – but before you start pulling open every drawer of your beauty advent calendar we have to get ready for Halloween – whether you’re planning a big night out and are scouring the internet for the best Halloween costume ideas, or you’ve got a big night in planned complete with spooky Yankee Candles and Lush Halloween bath bombs.

And after spooky season but before the festive fun starts it’ll be bonfire night. While it can be great fun for humans – fireworks, hot chocolates and writing your name with a sparkler (yes, it’s just as fun now as it was when we were little) – it’s a completely different story for animals who are often left terrified by the noise and flashing lights.

The RSPCA website estimates that 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks, and if you have a pet you’ll know how scary it can be for your fur baby.

Supermarkets appear to be taking note and some are launching special ranges of low noise fireworks without the screeches and bangs.

ASDA’s 12 piece rainbow box will be available in 500 selected stores across the UK until New Years, and will set you back £10. There will also be a multi-shot box on offer for £20.

Morrisons will also be selling a low noise firework range, offering a Sparkling Gem Low Noise Fountain four pack for £6 and a Twinkle Low Noise Fountain two pack for £15.

Tesco is also selling more pet-friendly products, including the Fantasia Rock pack and the Box of Tricks selection box at £6 or three for £15.

Sainsbury’s, however, is not selling any fireworks in any of their stores this year, confirming: ‘Fireworks are no longer available in our stores but customers can continue to choose from a range of seasonal products, such as glow sticks and light up spinning wands.’
