Brother of Amelia Bambridge joins search in Cambodia for missing backpacker

The family of missing Amelia Bambridge are joining the search for the backpacker who was last seen on Wednesday.

Her brother Harry arrived in Cambodia earlier today as volunteers and police search beaches, jungles using equipment from a local dive centre and a drone.

Amelia, from Worthing, West Sussex, was last seen on the island of Koh Rong at a party.

In a Facebook post shortly after arriving in the South East Asian country, Harry said: ‘So I’ve landed in Cambodia, in a taxi to attempt to make the last ferry to the island which is a five hour taxi.

‘I’m totally over whelmed with everyone’s support and I can’t thank you all enough.

‘I seriously believe there is still hope for her to be found alive.’

Amelia’s mother Linda Bambridge, 52, has also flown out to assist in the search.

Staff at Police Beach, a private venue that holds regular events, found a purple rucksack containing her purse, phone and bank cards the following morning.

Fellow traveller Ryan Harris says he met her in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh before travelling with her to Koh Rong.

He left to visit a neighbouring island but made plans to see Amelia again the next day.

When he returned, he was told Amelia hadn’t returned from her night out so he raised the alarm.

Caro Harvey met Amelia in Phnom Penh before the pair reunited on Koh Rong and was staying at the same hostel.

The traveller described her as ‘very friendly’ and said she was ‘looking very happy to travel alone’.

Ms Harvey says the last time she her was as they were talking, right before she left for the party.

She says Amelia travelled with other revellers but she did not know who they were.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: ‘We are assisting the family of a British woman who has been reported missing in Cambodia and are in close contact with the Cambodian police.’
