We’ve got Prograis-Taylor and a host of other shows coming this week in boxing.
UFC Fight Pass, 8:30 pm ET, Mykquan Williams vs Tre’Sean Wiggins. Another Broadway Boxing show. Usually we’d do live coverage, but Golden Boy have a free streaming world title bout on the same evening. Williams is a decent looking prospect at 140 but not exactly taking a step forward with this matchup.
Facebook, 10:00 pm ET, Elwin Soto vs Edward Heno. A world title fight at 108 pounds, with Soto looking to prove he’s not a controversial fluke, Heno looking to bust out at world level. Again, I say this every time they run, but the Thursday Night Fights series has been P4P probably the best boxing series of 2019. BLH will have live coverage.
DAZN, 1:30 pm ET, Daniel Scardina vs Ilias Achergui, Francesco Patera vs Domenico Valentino. Scardina is headlining, but the more important fight is Patera defending the European lightweight title against Valentino, a 35-year-old longtime amateur standout who fought at the Olympics in 2004, 2008, and 2012.
UFC Fight Pass, 10:00 pm ET, Kendo Castaneda vs Stan Martyniouk. A decent step for Castaneda against Martyniouk, who isn’t a star or contender but is a competent fighter. BLH will have live coverage.
DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Regis Prograis vs Josh Taylor, Dereck Chisora vs David Price, Ricky Burns vs Lee Selby, Yves Ngabu vs Lawrence Okolie. The main event here is fantastic on paper, should be a hell of a fight, and it’s the first of this season’s World Boxing Super Series finals. Chisora-Price could be interesting, Burns-Selby is a nice matchup, Ngabu-Okolie is a good next test for Okolie at the very least, for Ngabu’s European cruiserweight title. Conor Benn and several others are also on the card. BLH will have live coverage.
ESPN+, 6:30 pm ET, Stevenson-Gonzalez prelims. Lots of prospects and kinda-prospects in action as usual, including Mikaela Mayer, Albert Bell, Jason Sanchez, and Andy Vences, plus more.
SHO, 9:00 pm ET, Erickson Lubin vs Nathaniel Gallimore, Robert Easter Jr vs Adrian Granados, Efe Ajagba vs Jack Mulowayi. It’s not the most star-studded card, but it’s not so bad. Lubin is generally pretty exciting, and Gallimore should provide more action across the ring than original opponent Terrell Gausha would have. Easter is moving up to 140 for the fight with Granados, who is looking to bounce back at his natural weight. Ajagba is a good heavyweight prospect. BLH will have live coverage.
ESPN+, 10:00 pm ET, Shakur Stevenson vs Joet Gonzalez, Josh Greer vs Antonio Nieves. Stevenson and Gonzalez are fighting for the vacant WBO featherweight title, last held by Oscar Valdez. Greer is hoping to impress a bit more here than he did in July against Nikolai Potapov. BLH will have live coverage.
Facebook, 7:00 pm ET, Serhii Bohachuk vs Tyrone Brunson. Bunch of young fighters and locals on the undercard. Bohachuk is an exciting 24-year-old junior middleweight prospect from Ukraine who has started building some buzz at The Avalon in Hollywood for 360 Promotions’ Hollywood Fight Night shows, running up a record of 15-0 (15 KO). Brunson’s a veteran gatekeeper sort. BLH will have live coverage.
