Britain’s worst female paedophile is being guarded by police after furious protesters surrounded the hostel she is staying in.
Vanessa George, 49, was jailed in 2009 for abusing at least 30 babies and toddlers while working at Little Ted’s nursery in Plymouth.
She was released from prison last month and has since moved to Birmingham having been banned from returning to her former city.
Today, crowds of angry protesters carried ‘Keeping Kids Safe’ banners as they stood outside her accommodation – which is just 500 metres from another nursery.
Some people even approached the nursery and asked parents leaving with their young children if they knew George was living near-by.
West Midlands Police attended the protest and blocked people from entering the hostel.
One woman, 33, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to cause criminal damage, The Mirror reports.
It is believed the demonstration was organised by a paedophile hunting Facebook group, which calls itself ‘Predator Awareness’.
George was jailed for a minimum of seven years after admitting to seven counts of sexual assault and six of making and distributing indecent pictures of children in 2009.
She had been caught as part of an investigation into a paedophile ring who shared indecent images of children with each other online.
Between 2008 and 2009, George took indecent images of as many as 64 children under her care.
Many parents of whose children attended the nursery do not even know if their babies were involved in the abuse, as George refused to say.
Earlier this year, her release from jail this year was described as ‘sickening’ by Luke Pollard, Labour MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport.
He said she should not be freed until her victims reached adulthood, with most of them currently between the ages of 12 and 14.
Mr Pollard continued: ‘She still refuses to name the babies and toddlers that she abused and the sheer level of anger and disgust that families here in Plymouth feel about this cannot be underestimated.
‘I don’t think you can show genuine remorse for a crime like this when you are refusing to name the children that you, she abused.’
George is banned from working with children and will remain on the sex offender list for life.
