HARRY MAGUIRE has faced another astonishing attack from Rafael van der Vaart after he claimed the Manchester United star is only as good as amateur Sunday league players.
The England centre-back became the world’s most expensive defender when he completed an £80million move from Leicester City this summer.
The 26-year-old has already formed a promising partnership in central defence with Victor Lindelof, with only three Prem teams conceding fewer goals than the Red Devils.
But former Spurs star van der Vaart, who was analysing United’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Dutch TV, remains at a loss at Maguire’s extortionate price-tag.
Speaking on Ziggo Sport, he said: “He can do something, but if he is worth so much money, Virgil van Dijk is worth 300 million”.
“If I am going to play with the amateurs on Sunday afternoon, I can easily find three who can do this. I mean that seriously.
“A bit silly to say, but I really think so.”

Van der Vaart previously dubbed Maguire England’s worst player at the Nations League following the 3-1 semi-final defeat to Holland in June.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s funny because during the Nations League, I was doing work for Dutch television.
“And I remember we were saying ‘Harry Maguire was by far the worst player on the pitch’.
“And then, two months later [he transferred for] £90million.”

Maguire did make 10 clearances against Liverpool – twice as many as any other player on the pitch.
But the former Leicester defender forfeited his clean sheet after Adam Lallana emerged from the bench to snatch a draw for the visitors.
Marcus Rashford had put United on course for a shock three points after Sadio Mane saw his equaliser chalked off for handball.
