When is the vote on Boris Johnson’s new Brexit deal?

Ah, Brexit – in the wise words of ABBA, here we go again.

After Boris Johnson’s latest plan was delayed – again – on Saturday 19 October, what’s the next steps for Britain and the EU?

When is the next Brexit vote?

Leader of the House, Jacob Rees-Mogg, announced that the government will bring a vote on the new Brexit deal on Monday.

But – and it’s a big one – this can only be done after Speaker of the House John Bercow rules on whether he’ll allow another vote then.

What’s next with Brexit?

After the Letwin amendment passed, the government pulled the Brexit-deal vote expected to follow.

Boris Johnson was made to request a delay from the EU – which he did so with three letters not signed by him, in a move that might see him in contempt of parliament.

The opposition now have the opportunity to attach amendments to his deal, amendments that could halt Johnson’s plans.

Among them could be the possibility of a second referendum, or to force the prime minister to push for the UK’s continued membership in the EU customs union under a new trade deal.

But Michael Gove is insisting Britain will still leave on 31 October regardless.

All 27 EU nations have to agree to an extension, and don’t have to give an immediate answer.

If the EU refuses a delay to Brexit, then Parliament has until 31 October to pass a deal and all associated legislation.

So, three years later, three prime ministers later, several meaningful votes later, Brexit is pretty much in the same condition as it was in 2016.
