Charlotte Church leaves fans in tears as she has emotional chat with terminally ill dad during family documentary
CHARLOTTE Church left fans in tears tonight as she had an emotional chat with her terminally ill dad during a family documentary.
The 33-year-old singer took part in the one-off Channel 4 programme with her mother Maria and adopted father James.
During the documentary, James, 53, revealed how he has been diagnosed with a terminal illness called AL amyloidosis, and could have as little as six months to live.
He said: “Time is not on my side. The disease I have is very rare, only one in eight million people have it.
“The worst scenario is I could only have six months, so I’m in a horrible position.
“I think about it all the time, what I can do to get my family into a place where I’m comfortable to leave them.”
James was by Charlotte’s side during her career as a child opera star, flying around the world with her for her performances, meeting two presidents of the United States along the way.
Charlotte spoke to the camera about her fears of losing James, before she headed out on a country walk with him for a heart to heart.
He told her: “You’re the only one I actually tell my emotions to, none of my friends are dealing with what I’m doing, so the closest thing is my closest friend, my buddy.”
He then gave Charlotte a kiss on the cheek as she laughed through her tears, telling him: “That’s really sweet.”
Speaking to the camera back home, James added: “That’s the sad part, I’m enjoying life, and I want to enjoy it more.
“But I’ve got no choice in this.”
Back with Charlotte, James recalled all the fun things they did travelling the world together, before she told him: “You’re my darling.”
