Dad ‘cracked baby’s skull after mother fed her cocaine-laced breastmilk’
A father cracked his infant daughter’s skull after her mother breastfed her while she was on cocaine, police say.
Five-month-old Yarini Escobar suffered a skull fracture and bleeding on her brain after she was allegedly battered by her her father, 36-year-old Fernando Escobar, on Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Fernando Escobar faces intentional child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, according to the arrest report obtained by WRAL.
Yarini’s mother, 25-year-old Sutchity Escobar-Belmonte, was taken into custody alongside Fernando after police say she breastfed her daughter while she was on cocaine and benzodiazepines, according to another warrant.
Fernando appeared in court on Tuesday and was taken to jail where he is being held on $500,000 bond.
Sutchity also remains in police custody and is being held on $200,000.
Authorities have not released many details in the early stages of the case and have not commented on the condition of Yarini.
