Bulldog Boulevard renamed

PROVO — It’s a plan some theorized started with BYU’s purchase of Provo High. Bulldog Boulevard changes to Cougar Boulevard in a special renaming ceremony this morning. Lead by President Worthen of BYU, Mayor Kaufusi, and Cosmo himself, the naming ceremony celebrated the change in name of the street.

“It is my honor to formally name 1230 North, Cougar Boulevard,” said Mayor Kaufusi at the unveiling ceremony as she held up one of the signs to adorn the newly named street.

Music played, cougar tails were eaten, and the people who attended got to write in the streets, though Cosmo removed any sign of red he could find and replaced it with blue. Mayor Kaufusi and Cosmo unveiled the new sign as President Worthen counted down.

Bulldog Boulevard comprises three blocks between State Street and North University Avenue and is the same as West 1230 North Street.

Originally named after the mascot of Provo high, the Bulldogs, the street’s namesake no longer exists and it has changed owners to none other than the BYU Cougars.

Some wondered why it would be changed today, though.

“It’s especially fitting…to have this particular ceremony on this day in which we celebrate the 144th anniversary of the founding of Brigham Young University,” said BYU President Kevin J. Worthen.

The change is sure to date people as new freshman come to BYU every year. Soon many will be confused as to where Bulldog Boulevard ever was.
