Prince Harry shared a heart-warming moment with a young girl last night as they bonded over their shared ginger hair.
The red-haired royal, 35, and his wife Meghan Markle, 38, were filmed meeting Milly Sutherland, 11, and her mother Angela, 50, at a reception for winners of the WellChild awards at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in central London.
Pointing out their shared hair colour Milly – who won the ‘Most Caring Child’ award – held up a piece of her curly red hair and said ‘snap’.
The Duke of Sussex then jokingly asked ‘can I borrow some?’ as he touched his own ginger locks.
The meeting also confirmed that Harry and Meghan’s son Archie has definitely inherited his father’s hair colour and has started a playgroup, according to Hello!
Angela said: ‘Meghan said he has [got red hair] and Harry said he definitely is, you can see it in his eyebrows.
‘Harry said he’d had no hair for five months, but Meghan told him she had taken him to the playgroup and she said there were other children there with the same amount of hair or even less.’
She added: ‘She took him to one of these baby classes today and she said they had loads of fun together. She said it was really good fun.’
Milly received the Most Caring Child Award last night for caring for and protecting her sister Sophie, who had Aicardi Syndrome and passed away in 2018.
When asked how her chat with Harry and Meghan had gone, she replied: ‘Boss!’
Angela added that the event had been ’emotional’ for the family, following Sophie’s tragic death.
She said: ‘It’s amazing. It’s quite emotional because we lost my daughter last year. Milly has spent most of her life massively missing out and it’s all about her now.’
Prince Harry choked up as he took to the stage last night to make a moving speech about becoming a father.
Speaking about the awards, he said: ‘They never fail to surprise and inspire me – but this year it resonates in a different way because now I’m a father.
‘Last year when my wife and I attended we knew that we were expecting our first child. No one else knew, but we did.’
As he teared up, host Gaby Roslin stepped in to pat him on the back as the crowd cheered.
He continued: ‘And I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tight during the awards, both of us thinking what it would be like to be parents one day, and more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to protect and help our child should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time.
‘And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heart strings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own.’
