THE Walking Dead’s latest episode has plummeted to the worst ratings in the zombie drama’s nine-year history.
The AMC post-apocalyptic drama aired the second episode of season 10 on Sunday night in the US, and the ratings for linear TV are the lowest of the show’s entire run.
The episode, titled We Are The End of the World drew 3.47 million viewers on linear TV, which is down seven per cent on the season 10 premiere from the week before.
However those figures do not take into account people watching on catch up services or the fact each episode is available two days in advance on AMC’s digital streaming service AMC Premiere.
The industry also looks at something called ‘Live + 3 ratings’, which are the total number of people watching live and over the next three days.
These ratings for episode two have not been released yet, but the premiere episode’s were up 50 per cent among the 18-49 demographic, and 45 per cent overall.
However, viewing figures as a whole are down for The Walking Dead compared to earlier seasons.
But, the number are by no means terrible, and the show is still one of the most popular franchises on linear TV.
AMC clearly aren’t concerned, as they have already renewed the show for an eleventh season.
Network CEO Josh Sapan also believes the show is far from dead and buried.
Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference, he said: “We have an awful lot of life left in The Walking Dead.
“I mean decades and decades of life left.”
