Killer babysitter who proclaimed ‘I’m innocent’ finally admits she was to blame for newborn’s death
A babysitter who proclaimed: ‘I’m innocent’ after a baby girl died in her care has admitted shaking the infant until her spine was damaged.
Samantha Klein, 31, admitted the February 2019 manslaughter of Alaya Foster at a plea hearing Tuesday after the youngster’s death by blunt force trauma.
Alaya, who was three-and-a-half months old when she died in Niagara Falls, New York, was shaken to her death by Klein at the killer’s home.
That attack was so ferocious it caused the youngster to suffer a brain bleed, fractured skull and spinal cord damage.
Klein, who was originally charged with murder in August, offered no excuse for the attack, and did not say what had provoked her into killing Alaya.
Three weeks after the baby’s death, she went on TV to protest her innocence and declared: ‘I did nothing to that baby.’
She claimed Alaya had a bruise when she was dropped off, and that the youngster had suddenly passed out and gone cold.

Chillingly, Klein ignored the question and responded by saying that Alaya was fine, before offering to watch her for another evening.
The youngster’s lifeless body was brought to hospital later that night.
Klein faces up to 25 years in jail over Alaya’s death, the Niagara Gazette reported.
She could also face a further 17 and a half years in jail after admitting separate crimes of robbery and selling fentanyl to a police officer.
Both sentences will run concurrently, with Klein set to learn how long she will spend behind bars on December 3.
