Notable Philadelphia: 10/15–10/21

Tuesday 10/15: The Kelly Writers House will present a poetry reading by Ahmad Almallah, with an introduction by Al Filreis. 6 p.m. at Kelly Writers House. 

The Free Library will present a reading by Tim O’Brien from his latest, Dad’s Maybe Book. 7:30 p.m. at Parkway Central Library.

Wednesday 10/16: The Wolf Humanities Center at Penn will present Kamila Shamsie, author of Home Fire, in conversation with Emily Wilson. 5 p.m. at Lightbox Film Center.

The third annual “Amplifying Our Voices: Empowerment through Poetry and Community” will feature readings by Trapeta Mayson, James Enoch Church, Ashley Davis, and Pat McClean. 6:30 p.m. at Friends Free Library of Germantown.

Head to the Writers House at Rutgers-Camden for a discussion with Lise Funderburg, editor of Apple, Tree: Writers on Their Parents, and Lauren Grodstein, one of the contributors to the anthology. 7 p.m. at The Writers House at Rutgers University-Camden.

The Wooden Shoe will present a reading and discussion with Nathaniel Flakin, author of Martin Monath: A Jewish Resistance Fighter Among Nazi Soldiers. 7 p.m. at Wooden Shoe Books & Records.

Moonstone Poetry will present an evening of political poetry featuring readings by Patrick Rosal and Sami Miranda. Hosted by Ryan Eckes. 7 p.m. at Fergie’s Pub.

Thursday 10/17: Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books will host a discussion with Kwame Mbalia, author of Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky. 6 p.m. at Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books.

Shakespeare & Co. will host a mini writers workshop and discussion led by Valerie Fox and Lynn Levin, authors of Poems for the Writing: Prompts for Poets. 6:30 p.m. at Shakespeare & Co. Rittenhouse.

Celebrate the release of America Is Immigrants, a new book by local author Sara Nović and featuring illustrations by Alison Kolesar. 7 p.m. at A Novel Idea on Passyunk.

Big Blue Marble Bookstore will host an evening with Shelly Oria, editor of Indelible in the Hippocampus: Voices from the Me Too Movement, as well as authors Gina Myers, Mecca Jamilah Sullivan, Kim Gek Lin Short, and Christina Rosso-Schneider. 7 p.m. at Kismet Cowork – Chestnut Hill.

Friday 10/18: Mural Arts and the Rail Park will present “Site/Sound: Homegrown with Pecola Breedlove & The Freedom Party.” Featuring performances by Tami LadySarkazym Muhammad, Dymir Wilson, Kirwyn Sutherland, and Rienne Jahnai, as well as an open mic. Hosted by Christopher KP Brown and Mizz Jasz. 7 p.m. at Win Win Coffee Bar.

Blue Stoop will present Jami Attenberg, author of All This Could Be Yours, in conversation with Liz Moore. 7:30 p.m. at RadioKismet.

Saturday 10/19: Blue Stoop will present the release party for Thomas Devaney’s new books Getting to Philadelphia and You Are the Battery. Featuring readings by Amy Sadao, Fergie Carey, Leroy Johnson, Francis Ryan, Maureen Devaney, Michaela Majoun, and Thomas Devaney. 2:30 p.m. at RadioKismet.

The Spiral Bookcase will present “A Surrealist/Forrealist Evening” featuring poetry readings by James Feichthaler, Philip Dykhouse, Victoria Mier, Amber Renee, Lamont Steptoe, and Jeremy Tenenbaum. 6 p.m. at The Spiral Bookcase.

Sunday 10/20: This year’s edition of Poetry at the Witch Market will feature readings by Angelo Colavita, Erin Moran, Rebecca Kokitus, Chris McCreary, Catherine Kyle, and Lindsay Coleman! Hosted by Kailey Tedesco. Witch Market from 12-6 p.m., readings at 2 p.m. at Pretzel Park. 

Monday 10/21: The Accidental Player series will present an evening of poetry featuring readings by MC Hyland, Rebecca Lehmann, and Ted Rees. 7 p.m. at Tattooed Mom.

The Supra Endura Creative Conversations series will present Carmen Maria Machado, author of Her Body and Other Parties and In the Dream House, in conversation with Gabrielle Mandel. 7 p.m. at The Caplan Recital Hall.

The Free Library will present a reading by Patti Smith from her latest, Year of the Monkey. 7:30 p.m. at Annenberg Center.
