Boy writes sweet thank you note to police who ‘always wave to him’

A young boy has written letters to police in Manchester thanking them for ‘always waving back’.

Adam, who doesn’t say how old he is, had clearly done his research as he drew a picture of a police officer complete with a list of their equipment including a radio, pepper spray, riot helmet and taser.

He also drew a picture of a patrol car with sirens blaring.

The letter read: ‘To police officers, Thank you for saving our lives and keeping us safe.

‘I really like the police because they are kind and when I wave at them they always wave back.’

The letter was tucked under the windscreen wiper of a police van out on patrol in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police shared the letter on Twitter, saying: ‘Dear Adam – Hopefully someone will show this to you (you’re prob too young to be on Twitter!)

‘I’d like to say huge thanks from Greater Manchester Police for your lovely card & kind words – it brought a happy tear to my eye & is a great reminder to us of why we do what we do. Insp M.’

He added: ‘PS love your picture of a police car & officer & list of equipment. If you’d like to visit us pls ask an adult to e-mail city.centre@gmp.police.uk. We’d love to meet & you could sit in a Police car & try some equipment on (sorry we can’t let you play with a TASER though).’

Adam was praised by others on social media for his ‘innocent’ words.

One user said: ‘It is so lovely to read this. I think that the police rarely get the thanks they deserve. There are good and bad people in every profession but let’s remember what an important and difficult job those officers do everyday.’

Christopher Timothy wrote: ‘I hope this promotes a gratitude and thankfulness for the amazing work the police do on a daily basis in keeping us all safe.’

Another police officer said his team had also received a similar letter from Adam.

This one read: ‘To Manchester Police, Thank you for saving our lives and keeping us safe. I like the police because they are kind and when I wave at them they always wave back. From Adam.’

One user responded: ‘What a lovely little boy. Well done Adam, your parents should be proud of you.’
