In Ecuador, protesters took eight policemen hostage
The Indians protesting in Ecuador took eight policemen hostage, they were shown to the head of the Confederation of Indian Nationalities of the country gathered in the house of culture in the north of Quito, according to the Comercio edition.
“The leaders of the Indian movement placed the detainees under the stage of the house of culture and reported that 40 soldiers were also captured in Sakisili”, – the newspaper writes.
The Head of the confederation, Jaime Vargas, appealed to the authorities with a request to give them the bodies of the three comrades who died during the protests, and also demanded that the repressions against the demonstrators be stopped.
Previously, five victims of clashes between protesters and police were reported. Human rights activists called on the government of Ecuador to stop the violence and guarantee respect for the rights of citizens.
In early October, in Ecuador, demonstrations of citizens dissatisfied with the economic reforms of the government began. Other public organizations joined the transport, and indefinite mobilization of representatives of indigenous peoples was announced to protest against the economic policy of the government.
Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno declared a state of emergency in connection with the protests.
