The Queen's bodyguards call her Sharon as a codename and lol

The royals have some of the best nicknames for each other. Meghan Markle has the most millennial nickname, and apparently she calls him ‘my Prince’. Prince William reportedly uses this sweet nickname for Princess Charlotte, while Kate Middleton calls her daughter ‘poppet’.

And while William used to call his grandmother Gary, we highly doubt that it’s how the staff at Buckingham Palace refer to Queen Elizabeth II.

So what do they call her? Her Royal Highness? Queenie? Liz?

Well, it turns out that her bodyguards do have a nickname for the monarch, and it’s pretty random.

According to The Express, in written communications staff and security refer to the Queen as ‘S’. While it has long been believed that the ‘S’ stands for ‘Sovereign’, it turns out that her codename could actually be Sharon.

A former royal aide told The Sun: ‘She’s written down as ‘S’ before cupping his hand over his mouth and whispering ‘it’s Sharon’ when pressed on what ‘S’ stood for.’

Royal historian, Hugo Vickers, also told the paper: ‘It is highly likely. The purpose of any sobriquet is that it should be anonymous and memorable.

‘If it can also be a bit mischievous and therefore all the more memorable, then that makes sense.

‘Although S might simply stand for Sovereign of course.’

So maybe it is Sovereign. But it’s much more fun to believe that the ‘S’ is short for Sharon.
