Two civilians have been killed as a result of the ongoing Turkish airstrikes on northeast Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which controls the region, announced late on October 9.
“Two civilians lost their lives, two others were injured in the Turkish aerial bombardment targeted the village of Misharrafa, west of Ras al-Ain,” the U.S.-backed group wrote on Twitter.
Hours earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the Turkish military and the so-called National Syrian Army (NSA) had launched “Operation Peace Spring” against Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria.
Turkish warplanes and artillery are now striking SDF positions in the region. All major towns and cities along the border with Turkey, including Ras al-Ayn, Tell Abyad, Kobane and al-Qamishli, were targeted, according to local sources.
