‘Woman, 21, said teacher, 72, gave her his Ford Focus to thank her for having sex with him’
A 21 year-old murder suspect claimed her alleged victim gave her his red Ford Focus in return for sexual favors.
Taylor Cynthia Elkins claimed William DuBois Jr gave her his 2013 car as a payment for sex – but she now stands accused of murdering the 72 year-old retired teacher.
Elkins, of Fort Smith in Arkansas, was charged with DuBois’s murder this week, almost three months after police found her in possession of the dead man’s car.
DuBois was found dead inside his apartment a day before the Ford was found, with his wife Susan saying he’d been battered to death.
She said her husband’s wallet, phone and car were stolen – disputing Elkins’ version of events.
The widow also revealed the suspected killer had been apprehended thanks to a tracker put on the Ford by DuBois’ family in case he suffered a medical emergency and needed help.
Susan, who lived apart from her husband for medical reasons, said: ‘He was probably hit over the head, that’s all we know.
‘I hope it was never one of his former students because he loved those kids.’
The grieving widow added: ‘Bill loved teaching, he loved working with the (Catholic charity) Knights of Columbus and he loved family.
Police have refused to say how he died, but would only confirm that the educator had not been killed by ‘natural or self-inflicted injuries.’
They have also refused to say whether DuBois knew his alleged killer.
He worked as a teacher in Fort Smith for 30 years, retired, then worked as a substitute teacher for 16 years.
A court date for Elkins has not yet been set.
She was arrested and charged in connection with the theft in July, and is being held without bond.
