Ex-footballer claims that player may have played his last game for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur endured just about the worst opening couple of minutes possible against Brighton in the Premier League this weekend.
Not only did Lloris make a huge error that led to an early conceded goal, he also managed to seriously injure himself in the process.
After attempting to catch a looping cross instead of tipping it over, the Frenchman was forced to drop the ball before taking it over the line himself.
Brighton simply tapped home the loose ball and Lloris fell back awkwardly on his arm, with the captain’s face telling the story as soon as he hit the ground.
Lloris was given oxygen on the pitch before being stretchered away and taken to hospital.
Tottenham later confirmed that the Frenchman has dislocated his elbow, before updating fans yesterday that he would not return until 2020.
Ex-footballer, Noel Whelan, believes that captain Hugo may have now played his last game for Tottenham after seven years of service.
He said (Football Insider): “Lloris may have played his last game for Tottenham. He’s starting to look like an accident waiting to happen at the top level.
“He’s struggling with high balls, the kind of distribution [Mauricio] Pochettino wants from him. He’s making all types of errors.
“That isn’t just this season, either. It was the same last season and the one before. He’s on the downhill spiral, that’s pretty clear.
“His absence is a chance for [Paulo] Gazzaniga to become the new number one. If he does really well, then Tottenham may decide to sell Lloris and bring in a younger keeper.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
It’s a real shame because Lloris started the season so well, but the errors have crept back into his game of late. I think that stating it’s his last game for the club is a bit dramatic, but he is certainly now past his best.
