Hardy more than happy with Gloucester performance
Despite being much the better side over the course of the 90 minutes against Gloucester City, Whitby Town will have to do it all again on Monday night (7.45pm).
The Blues will make the trip to the Jubilee Stadium for a Third Qualifying Round replay following yesterday’s 1-1 draw.
Due to the dominant display from the Seasiders, Hardy described the final result as the “lowest of the lows” in football, but took heart from this side’s performance.
“The performance ticked all the boxes for us,” Hardy said.
“We had numerous absentees due to injury and we were delighted with the performance.
“To have the game and result taken away from us in the way it was is cruel to say the least.”
Despite being largely dominant for the full game, Gloucester began to show signs of danger late on in the game.
But during the match, Whitby restricted their National League North opponents to very little.
“They started to a create a few chances towards the back end of the match,” Hardy stated.
“You expect this from a higher ranked opponent but until then we really gave them little to work with.
“I can’t emphasise enough about how good our team performance was so it’s so disappointing that they scored as late as they did.”
Town now have the mammoth task of travelling down to Gloucester on a Monday night, something which is far from ideal.
The Blues look thin on the ground in terms of squad numbers but the management will take a good look at what they’ve got available.
“I think Gloucester will know about the difficulties we will have,” Hardy revealed.
“Logistically it’s going to cause us problems but it is what it is and this is the level that we’re at.
“We’ll take stock over this weekend and we’ll do our best to get a squad together for Monday.”
