Oregon RB Cyrus Habibi-Likio tackled a rogue fan and offered to buy him ice cream

Oregon Ducks running back Cyrus Habibi-Likio was impatient to retake the lead in a Pac-12 matchup against the Cal Golden Bears on Saturday night. And a fan was not helping the Ducks’ cause.

The Ducks would eventually win, 17-7, but in the third quarter, with the Oregon trailing, 7-3, someone jumped onto the field and eluded security during a timeout. The fan enjoyed a long run on the field at Autzen Stadium, and lapped from the west end zone to east and back.

That’s when Habibi-Likio intervened.

The running back tracked down the fan and brought him to the ground. Fans shouldn’t be on the field, and players shouldn’t be the ones tackling rouge fans. But perhaps credit goes to Habibi-Likio for seemingly bringing the fan to the ground as gently as possible. The stadium certainly seemed to approve, with huge cheers.

After the game, Habibi-Likio said he wanted to get the game back on track. Here’s what he told reporters, via ESPN:

“We were down and he was kind of taking a while — prayers out to him, I hope he’s not hurt. I had no intention of hurting him, we just need to get the game going.

“This is the Pac-12 North, and this is a Pac-12 game, we gotta get going or the result would have been different.”

Habibi-Likio, who would score the go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter, admitted he felt bad for hitting the fan, and said that if the fan found him on Instagram, they could go out for ice cream to make peace.
