LIVERPOOL’S scoreboard predicted Red Bull Salzburg’s outrageous fightback – half an hour before it actually happened.
The Reds stormed to a 3-0 lead early in the first-half and appeared to be en route to a crushing Champions League win.
But after Salzburg pulled one back, Liverpool‘s scoreboard read 3-3 in an eerie premonition of what was to come.
The Reds came absolutely charging out of the blocks, with Sadio Mane netting in the ninth minute.
Andrew Robertson started and ended a superb team move to make it 2-0, before Mohamed Salah scored his first Champions League goal since the 2018-19 final just after the half an hour mark.
Seemingly in complete control, Hwang Hee-chan scored three minutes later to reduce the deficit.
But the Anfield scoreboard displayed 3-3 rather than 3-1, thought to be nothing more than a malfunction – until half an hour later.
In a bonkers few minutes, Takumi Minamino scored and goal-mad Erling Haaland found the net to ACTUALLY make it 3-3 in a breathless European night at Anfield.
A clearly shaken Liverpool took some time to compose themselves – but that man Salah restored the lead less than ten minutes later to make it 4-3.
It was already essentially a must-win for Jurgen Klopp and Co having lost their opening match of the group stage to Napoli 2-0.
The reigning champions have never made it too easy on themselves in the group stage down the years.
But a draw in what was supposed to be their easiest game would have been catastrophic. As it was, they clung on for all three points.
