Wales boss Giggs set to recall Ashley Williams for crunch Euro 2020 double-header
ASHLEY WILLIAMS is set to win a Wales recall as Ryan Giggs prepares for a crunch Euro 2020 double-header.
The Dragons captain was left out of Giggs’ squad for last month’s internationals against Azerbaijan and Belarus due to a lack of first-team football.
But Williams, 35, has since played four games for new club Bristol City, including Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with Brentford.
And Giggs is primed to include the former Everton centre-back when he names his squad for the Group E showdowns in Slovakia next Thursday and a home tie with Croatia on October 13.
National boss Giggs maintained last month that Williams remained his skipper although Gareth Bale and Joe Allen wore the captain’s armband in his absence.
Williams has not figured for Wales since the 1-0 loss to Hungary in June but, despite his omission, the 86-cap star did meet up with his team-mates in Cardiff to attend meetings and gain experience to help towards his coaching badges.
The ex-Swansea and Stoke defender said last month: “Everyone knows how passionate I am about Wales and how much I enjoy playing for them. I love it there and would like that to continue for as long as possible.”
Fellow defender James Lawrence is a doubt after the St Pauli centre-back underwent a scan on a muscle injury on Monday.

Aaron Ramsey also missed out last month through injury but the Juventus midfield ace is set to be included after recovering from a hamstring problem.
Ramsey, 28, has enjoyed a positive start to life in Italy, scoring on his Serie A debut and making five appearances.
